Help with setup, active sessions and returning to your normal Android screen settings.
Getting started
When Extimeout asks, allow Modify system settings in Android, then return to the app. Choose a duration or end time and start a session. Always on runs without a timer until you stop it or another applicable ending condition is reached.
Allow notifications if you want the active-session notice and its Restore now action. Add the Quick Settings tile when offered, or through Android’s Quick Settings editor. The tile’s session duration can be changed in Extimeout’s Settings.
Ending a session
Choose Restore now in the app or active notification. Check that the app has returned to its idle state. If you chose dimming, Extimeout also attempts to restore the brightness settings it captured.
My screen timeout or brightness has not returned to normal
- Open Extimeout again so it has an opportunity to run recovery.
- Check that Modify system settings access is still allowed.
- Open Settings → Diagnostics. If Try recovery is offered, use it and check the result.
- If needed, set your preferred screen timeout and brightness directly in Android’s display settings. Names and locations vary by device.
A force stop, removed permission, process interruption or direct Android uninstall can prevent recovery from running. Android or device-administration limits can also cause a different timeout to be applied. Diagnostics shows the value Android reports; Extimeout does not repeatedly overwrite a setting you or Android changed outside the app.
Battery safeguard and notifications
With Battery safeguard on, choose the battery level at which a session should end while the phone is discharging. Check charging options if a session ends when you unplug. If the active notification is missing, check both Android’s app-notification permission and the active-session notification channel.
Removing Extimeout
Use Settings → Uninstall Extimeout. This lets the app restore and verify the settings it still controls before opening Android’s uninstall confirmation. Avoid clearing storage or uninstalling directly through Android during an active session.
If the app is already removed, adjust screen timeout and brightness manually in Android settings. There is no online Extimeout account to close.
