Terms of Use
Last updated:
Extimeout is a free Android utility for temporarily extending screen timeout. These terms explain its use and how Android restrictions can affect it.
Extimeout is developed and published by Veritware Pty Ltd (“Veritware”). By using it, you agree to these terms and the applicable terms of the store or platform through which you obtained it.
Free use and licence
Extimeout is entirely free, with no paid unlock, subscription or advertising. We grant you a non-exclusive licence to use it lawfully on Android devices you own or are authorised to control. Veritware retains rights in the software and branding. Open-source components remain covered by their own licences, available in the app.
Do not use Extimeout to interfere with someone else’s device, bypass restrictions you are not authorised to change, or infringe another person’s rights. Nothing here prevents activities permitted by applicable law or an open-source licence.
Temporary settings and restoration
Extimeout captures the screen settings it needs before a session, temporarily adjusts them and attempts to restore them when the session ends. Optional dimming can temporarily change manual brightness or automatic-brightness mode. Use Restore now to end a session yourself.
Extimeout needs Android’s Modify system settings access to make these changes. It does not override Android device-administration rules, lock-screen security or restrictions imposed by your device manufacturer.
Android can prevent or delay execution. In particular, force-stopping the app can prevent restoration until it runs again. If Android ends the app process during an Always on session, a later manual lock may not be detected until the app has an opportunity to recover. Removing settings access, clearing app data or uninstalling during a session can also prevent restoration.
Before removing the app, use Uninstall Extimeout in its Settings so it can restore and check any settings it still controls before Android asks you to confirm removal. If restoration is uncertain, reopen the app, check Diagnostics and use the recovery action offered. You can also set timeout and brightness manually in Android settings.
Using an awake screen responsibly
A screen that stays on uses battery and can leave its content visible to other people. Choose a suitable duration, brightness and battery safeguard, and lock the device when appropriate. The safeguard depends on Android allowing the app to run and report battery state; it is not a guarantee against battery depletion.
Extimeout is a convenience utility. It is not intended to provide a safety-critical display or guaranteed uninterrupted operation.
Updates, availability and consumer rights
Compatibility and behaviour can vary by Android version and device. We may make reasonable changes for compatibility, security or usability. We cannot promise uninterrupted operation on every device, but this does not exclude any obligation or remedy required by law.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies rights that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable rights under the Australian Consumer Law. These terms do not impose a blanket exclusion of responsibility for the app.
We may update these terms and will revise the date above. Material changes will be notified where required and will not retrospectively remove rights you already have.
